Man Divorces Wife After She Sends $94,000 to Male Streamer and Puts Family in Debt

A man in central China has filed for divorce after discovering that his wife secretly sent 670,000 yuan (around $94,000) to a male live-streamer, leaving their family broke and in debt.

The husband, surnamed Liu, lives in Xingyang, Henan province, and has been married to his wife for eight years. He works in Zhengzhou, about 25 km from their hometown, while his wife stayed home to care for their child.

According to Chinese media, Liu lived an extremely frugal life. After paying basic living expenses and rent of just 300 yuan (about $42) a month, he transferred almost all of his income to his wife because he wanted to give her what he called “a sense of security.”

Over several years, Liu said he sent his wife 1.16 million yuan (about $163,000), which was deposited directly into her bank account.

His suspicions were raised when he recently asked to check her bank account and she refused. Later, she admitted there was no money left.

She also confessed that she had borrowed 80,000 yuan (around $11,200) from a loan company.

According to her admission, the money was gone — including the 670,000 yuan that was given to a male live-streamer. She could not clearly explain where the rest of the money had gone.

The woman reportedly became emotionally attached to the streamer and admitted she was obsessed with him. Chat records showed she once asked him to call her “baby.” She insisted that she never met him in person.

“I have been saving money on food and expenses and offered all my money to her. However, she gave the money to another man. I think she just could not stand loneliness,” Liu said.

He also told his wife:
“In Zhengzhou, I live in a basic flat costing only 300 yuan, which does not even shelter me from rain or wind. But look at what environment you live in — a comfortable house with a heating system.”

“I trusted you so much but what you did is like stabbing me in the back,” he added. “I do not love you anymore.”

The family is now left in debt due to the loan his wife took. Liu says he plans to recover half of their shared property before formally completing the divorce.

The live-streaming platform involved has said it is investigating the situation.

The story went viral online, receiving tens of millions of views and sparking heated debate on social media, with many users urging the man to go through with the divorce and warning others about sending money to online streamers.
