Mystery as ‘Murdered’ Man Not Seen in Five Years Shows Up Alive and Well

Bradford, UK — A man who had been missing for over five years and was believed to have been murdered has stunned authorities by appearing at a police station alive and well.

Ismail Ali, 46, was last seen leaving his workplace at Gulam Food Stores on Cumberland Road in Bradford on May 29, 2020. Following his disappearance, five people — three women aged 47, 54, and 55, and two men aged 27 and 51 — were arrested on suspicion of his murder, with homes raided and large sums of cash seized in the process.

Despite the arrests and widespread concern for Ali’s welfare, he walked into a West Yorkshire police station on Wednesday, November 19, reporting that he was “safe and well.” Police confirmed that his family has been informed and is being kept updated while officers work to understand the circumstances of his disappearance.

Detective Inspector Tom Hilyer said earlier in the week, “After extensive enquiries, we now suspected that Ismail Ali was no longer alive, and we suspected that he may have been murdered.” Ali’s sudden reappearance has left authorities and the public baffled.

One of Ali’s friends suggested that he may have disappeared in 2020 due to stress and a desire to start a “new life.” “I know he was very stressed before he vanished. Maybe he finally had enough and started a new life,” the friend said.

West Yorkshire Police continue to investigate both the circumstances of Ali’s disappearance and the money laundering offences connected to the suspects previously arrested. Officers emphasized that the enquiries into these offences are ongoing, and the individuals remain on bail.

Ali’s disappearance had also been featured in public appeals over the years, with police thanking members of the public for sharing information and helping with the investigation.
