Reckless Joyride Topples 40-Foot Christmas Tree in Kazakhstan – Driver Ordered to Pay for Repairs

A late-night joyride in southern Kazakhstan ended in chaos when a driver crashed into a 40-foot Christmas tree in the central square of the town of Saryagash. CCTV footage captured the dramatic incident, which unfolded during the early morning hours.

The video shows the driver, behind the wheel of a VAZ-2105 Lada, racing into the mostly empty square and performing tight circular spins, also known as “donuts.” Tires screeched as the car narrowly avoided street furniture and festive decorations.

But the stunt quickly spiraled out of control. During a second spin, the vehicle swung wider than expected and slammed directly into the towering holiday tree, flattening it and sending lights and decorations scattering across the pavement.

Rather than stopping, the driver initially sped away, leaving the wrecked tree lying flat in the square. Police said they received a report of the incident around 3 a.m. and quickly reviewed CCTV footage to identify the culprit.

Investigators confirmed the driver’s identity and impounded his vehicle. Authorities issued him a fine for dangerous driving. In an unusual twist, police also required the driver to repair the damaged Christmas tree. “The young driver repaired the damaged tree and promised not to commit similar offenses in the future,” they said.

The festive display has since been restored, bringing holiday cheer back to the square, and serves as a reminder of the consequences of reckless driving.
