A raccoon in Virginia gave animal control officers a story they won’t forget after breaking into a closed liquor store, going on a full-blown “drinking rampage,” and eventually passing out on the bathroom floor.
According to employees at the Ashland-area store, the chaos began early Saturday morning when the furry intruder managed to sneak into the building and head straight for the bottom shelf — the one stocked with scotch and whisky.

By the time staff arrived, the scene looked like something out of a late-night comedy. Bottles were smashed, a ceiling tile had collapsed, and alcohol was spilled across the floor. And the culprit? A very intoxicated raccoon, lying unconscious in the bathroom after what appeared to be an extremely wild night.

Animal control officer Samantha Martin, who responded to the incident, couldn’t help but laugh at the unusual situation.
“I personally like raccoons,” she said. “They are funny little critters. He fell through one of the ceiling tiles and went on a full-blown rampage, drinking everything.”
Martin transported the raccoon back to the animal shelter, describing it as just “another day in the life of an animal control officer.”
Hanover County Animal Protection and Shelter later confirmed that the raccoon sobered up after a few hours of rest and showed no injuries — aside from what they jokingly described as “maybe a hangover and regretting poor life choices.”
Once fully recovered, the raccoon was safely released back into the wild, with the hope that he had learned a valuable lesson: breaking and entering is definitely not the answer.
