Murder Convict Goes Viral After Saying He’d Miss GTA 6

A convicted murderer has gone viral online after police body-camera footage revealed him worrying about missing the release of Grand Theft Auto VI moments after being arrested.

Robert Richens, 35, was jailed for life after admitting to the murder of his former partner, Rachael Vaughan, 40, at her home in Oxfordshire. The footage, which has since circulated widely online, shows Richens expressing concern about missing the highly anticipated video game while in police custody.

Richens called emergency services at 6:26am on May 30, 2025, telling the operator he had “accidentally” killed someone. In the call, he could be heard sobbing and saying the woman was not moving, repeatedly insisting he did not mean to kill her.

Police later found Ms Vaughan at her home, where she was pronounced dead despite efforts by emergency services to save her. Richens was arrested at his address the same day.

Body-worn camera footage shown in court during his sentencing captured Richens making the now-viral comments. While speaking to officers, he said he was going to “miss GTA,” before clarifying he meant Grand Theft Auto VI. When an officer told him the game would not be released for “ages,” Richens replied that he knew he was “gonna get life.”

Prosecutors told the court that Ms Vaughan had suffered a sustained and violent assault. Detectives said Richens made no attempt to seek medical help and only contacted police once he had “nowhere else to turn.”

Richens pleaded guilty to one count of murder on December 12, 2025. On February 6, 2026, he was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 16 years and one month before he can apply for parole. He will be in his early 50s before becoming eligible.

During sentencing, Detective Chief Inspector Stuart May described Richens’ actions as “heartless” and “merciless,” adding that his comments following the killing showed a lack of concern for the victim.

At the time of sentencing, Grand Theft Auto VI was officially scheduled for release on November 19, 2026 — meaning Richens will still be incarcerated when the game launches.
