A Tennessee mom has gone viral after giving birth to a massive baby boy weighing nearly 13 pounds, setting a new record at Nashville’s TriStar Centennial Women’s Hospital.
Shelby Martin, from Nashville, welcomed her son Cassian via C-section — and his size left both doctors and the internet stunned. Cassian weighed in at 12 pounds, 14 ounces (5.8 kg), making him the biggest baby delivered at the hospital in more than three years.
Martin, who shares the same birthday as her newborn, posted a humorous TikTok after giving birth, joking:
“When people talk about having a big baby, like I don’t know ball. But trust me … I know ball.”

Her video, which shows her before birth in a hospital gown followed by clips of her newborn son, quickly went viral — gaining over 4 million likes and tens of thousands of amused comments.
One user joked, “HOW MANY YEARS WAS HE IN THERE?” while another asked, “Did you have to push, or did he walk out?”
Even TriStar Centennial Women’s Hospital joined in, describing the delivery as “a beautiful reminder of resilience and love.”
Following his birth, Cassian spent some time in the NICU, where doctors monitored his glucose levels and provided oxygen. Martin’s mother, Carolyn Hines, affectionately called him a “fat peanut” in an Instagram post and shared updates on his recovery.

“Cassian has been in the NICU since almost immediately after the C-section,” she wrote. “He’s on IV and oxygen. They’ll be keeping him overnight.”
Thankfully, Cassian’s oxygen levels soon improved, and the proud mom shared heartfelt thanks to the hospital staff:
“I want to send extra thanks to the ladies that took the best care of me and helped me navigate recovery as a first-time C-section mama. Another huge thank you to the NICU team that cared for our big guy and loved on him when I couldn’t.”
And if that wasn’t enough of a birthday surprise, Cassian arrived on Shelby’s own birthday, making the moment even more special.
While the average American baby boy weighs around 7.2 pounds, Cassian nearly doubled that — joining a growing list of record-breaking newborns making headlines.
From viral TikTok fame to a hospital record, baby Cassian’s arrival proves that sometimes, bigger really is better.
