A Dutch woman has shared her shocking story after claiming her ex-boyfriend forced her to get his name tattooed all over her body — more than 250 times — including on her face.
The woman, identified only as Joke, said the tattoos were done over several years using a cheap tattoo machine her former partner purchased online. According to reports, nearly 90% of her body was eventually covered in ink, much of it featuring his name, initials, and phrases suggesting she was his “property.”

Tattoos used as a form of control
Joke alleges that the tattoos were not done out of choice, but as part of a pattern of control and abuse. Many of the markings were placed on highly visible and sensitive areas, including her face, neck, and other parts of her body.
Andy Han, from Dutch organization Stichting Spijt van Tattoo, which has been helping her with removal treatments, described the situation as a clear sign of domination.
He explained that some tattoos were deliberately placed in areas where the man believed she may have been touched by others, reinforcing what he described as possessive behavior.
Joke also claimed her ex-partner subjected her to intimidation and threats, which eventually led her to struggle with alcohol and drug use, making it harder for her to resist.
Legal challenges and lack of charges
After leaving the relationship, Joke reported the alleged abuse to authorities. However, no arrests were made.
According to those involved in the case, the situation proved difficult to prosecute because the ex-boyfriend claimed that all tattoos were done with her consent.
Han pointed out that it is hard to believe someone would willingly choose to have tattoos placed near the eyes, nose, or ears, but proving coercion in such cases can be legally challenging.
Painful recovery and transformation
Since escaping the relationship, Joke has been undergoing a long and painful process to remove the tattoos. A fundraiser launched to support her treatment has raised tens of thousands of dollars to cover the expensive procedures.

Recent updates show a major transformation, especially on her face, where much of the ink has already been removed.
She hopes to eventually become completely tattoo-free and has said that any extra funds raised will go toward helping other victims of similar abuse.
Despite everything she has gone through, Joke remains hopeful and has shared a message of encouragement: people who have experienced deep trauma can still rebuild their lives.
